Patrick Couch
Financial Representative

At the University of Notre Dame, Patrick Couch studied finance only to find himself unsatisfied with the career path moving forward. His servant’s heart and summers spent teaching in Tanzania and South Dakota inspired him to explore alternative vocations. This led him to pursue a master’s degree in education. After two years of teaching 4th grade at a Catholic school in Memphis, he returned to his alma mater as an Associate Program Director for ACE Teaching Fellows.

In preparing to propose to Emma (now happily married), he met with a financial advisor and his eyes were opened to a new career opportunity. After extensive research of the financial services industry and meeting with Andrew Higney, he found within NM-Chicago a team of professionals whose vision aligned with his values and desire to positively impact others.

Patrick joined the firm in the first remote training class due to the pandemic. This proved to be a big curveball. Emma was teaching first graders online, and he was trying to build a financial planning business from their small apartment. Group texts with colleagues, zoom meetings, and eventually, the safe return to the office paved his way forward.

Patrick is incredibly grateful for the perspective shared with him throughout his first year from his mentor Taylor Overman. He also credits his success to relationships with Andrew Higney, John Baker, and Ben Voigt, all fellow Notre Dame alumni, and a large team of others that provided the support to help him grow his practice. This incredible support led him to pay it forward as a mentor to new financial representatives.

As a mentor, he shares his experience of what it takes to build a business and be a leader of others within our firm. And as a teacher, he is committed to sharing his knowledge with clients. Patrick leads his clients – primarily young professionals and families – to build a better life through an educational approach to financial planning.

As an educator, mentor, and advisor, this career provides Patrick with personal fulfillment, knowing his gifts and talents are positively impacting others.
